How do I care for my Kajal Naina jewelry?
Your fine jewelry is designed to last a lifetime, but it needs a little care to maintain its radiant sparkle. We’ve created a comprehensive guide to help you protect and preserve your gold, diamond or pearl pieces.
For a full guide on how to care for your jewelry and pearls, please visit our Jewelry Care Guide page.It is also worth noting that unlike freshwater pearls, saltwater ones are mostly round and have better luster – characteristics that are more sought after and therefore command higher prices. In recent years, however, many producers started to grow freshwater pearls for a longer time (three to six years), and the resulting pearls are bigger (8-15mm) and are of quality comparable to that of good saltwater pearls.

Our Pearls
How do you source your pearls?
Our passion for pearls is what sets us apart. Kajal, our founder, personally handpicks each pearl from the heart of the world’s pearl trade in Hong Kong, ensuring every gem meets our high standards for quality, luster, and value.
What is the difference between “cultured” and “natural” pearls? Are cultured pearls “real”?
Yes, cultured pearls are 100% real pearls. They are grown in a natural environment with a human “seed” carefully introduced into the oyster, which then coats it with layers of nacre. Natural pearls form by pure chance without any intervention and are extremely rare. All of our pearls are genuine cultured pearls.
What is the difference between Freshwater and saltwater pearls?
- Freshwater pearls are grown in freshwater lakes and rivers, often known for their beautiful luster, wide range of colors, and affordability.
- Saltwater pearls are grown in oceans and seas, with iconic varieties including Akoya, Tahitian, and South Sea pearls. They are typically prized for their exceptional luster and perfectly round shapes.
For more information, please visit our Pearl Education Series.
Why are freshwater pearls much lower cost than Tahitian and South Sea pearls?
The price difference is primarily due to the natural process. Freshwater mussels can produce multiple pearls in one harvest, making them more plentiful. In contrast, saltwater oysters (which produce Tahitian and South Sea pearls) typically produce only one pearl at a time, making them more rare and valuable.
Is there a grading standard for pearls?
There is no single, universally standardized grading system like the 4 Cs for diamonds. A pearl’s value is determined by a combination of seven factors: luster, surface quality, shape, color, nacre thickness, size, and matching. As a certified pearl specialist, Kajal personally handpicks every pearl to ensure superior quality.
